At its National Conference in San Diego, California on June 26, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America presented our local Big’s office with the National Quality Award for the second year in a row.  This award, from the National Leadership Council (NLC), is bestowed to Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring agencies nationwide for meeting or exceeding goals related to program quality, number of children served and financial stability.

Our local Bigs’ program is only one of 36 affiliates to receive this distinction out of 400 agencies across the country.

“Receiving this Quality Award for the second year in a row is a great testament to the hard work being accomplished by our team” said Cecilia Chesney, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan.  “They have upheld high standards that exceed the National Benchmarks, which translates to a brighter future for local kids in need.”

In the past year, Bigs has served over 400 children in a five-county region.  Throughout the year, Bigs will continue to be focused on fundraising efforts, which will aid the 132 children currently on the waitlist.

“We are thrilled about this accomplishment”, said Executive Director, Cecilia Chesney, “we’ve worked really hard to help children in Northwestern Michigan, and it feels good to be recognized nationally for our efforts”, she said.
